 ENG 731: Theory and Practice of Teaching Composition 

Co-taught with Dr. Jason Palmeri and Jonathan Bradshaw. Introductory course required for all new composition Teaching Assistants at Miami University. In addition to introducing the composition curriculum, the course helped TAs design their course syllabus and provided foundational composition theory, culminating in a final teaching portfolio.

                   

          

ENG 607: Composition Teaching Practicum II

Co-taught with Dr. Jason Palmeri and Jonathan Bradshaw. The final teaching practicum required for all new composition Teaching Assistants. Students revised course plans, finalized their first-year teaching portfolios, and worked together in small teacher inquiry groups to develop program-wide pedagogical material.

 

               

ENG606: Composition Teaching Practicum I

Co-taught with Dr. Jason Palmeri and Jonathan Bradshaw. The first of two one-hour required practica for new composition Teaching Assistants. Students continued to develop their coures, received support and advice from their teachers and peers, and refined their teaching portfolios.

 

 

ENG495: Capstone in Rhetoric & Writing (Special Topic: Women’s Public Rhetoric)

Co-taught with Dr. Kate Ronald. A senior capstone course required for Professional Writing majors/Rhetoric & Writing minors, course content focused on analysis of women’s contemporary and historical rhetorical actions. Student projects included presentations, rhetorical analyses, and a self-designed public rhetorical intervention.

 

 

ENG/IMS 224: Digital Writing and Rhetoric

Cross listed with Miami University’s Interactive Media Program, this course asked students to analyze and compose visual, aural, and multimodal texts in varying genres. A required course for Professional Writing and Interactive Media Studies students.

 

 

ENG 112: Composition & Literature

The second of two required introductory composition courses. Students learned strategies to critically read and respond to a variety of texts, composing both in traditional academic genres, and in public, multimodal genres. My sections used the broad theme “Gender, Sexuality, and Identity” to center student inquiry, and were taught in laptop

classrooms.

 

 

ENG 111: Composition & Rhetoric

The first of two required introductory composition courses. Students learned basic rhetorical principles and applied them to a number of assignments, ranging from narrative, analysis, research-based writing, multimodal production, and reflection. I taught all sections in a laptop classroom and integrated this technology into daily class

activities.

 

 

BUS 102: Writing for Business Decision-Making

An introductory course required for admission into Miami University’s Farmer School of Business. Assignments and class activities focused on business genres and rhetorical strategies for workplace writing.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ENC 1102: Freshman Composition & Research

The second of two required first-year composition courses, this course focused on introducing effective research practices and writing. Student writing consisted of individual and collaborative research projects geared toward both public and academic audiences. All sections were taught in a computer classroom.

 

ENC 1101: Freshman Composition & Rhetoric

The first of two required first-year composition courses. Introduced students to basic rhetorical concepts and a variety of composing practices, writing in multiple genres and mulitple mediums. All but one section was taught in a computer classroom.
